AFDS - Marano Lagunare branch
Back in 1959, a group of people led by the teacher Giallongo Giovanni Fulvio, went to Udine to give blood and had a great idea: to establish the Marano Lagunare branch of the AFDS (Friulian Blood Donors’ Association). Today, thanks to the work of this modest group and the continuous support of the community of Marano, the Marano Lagunare branch counts almost 200 donors who contribute to saving and helping lives through the simple act of giving blood: our banner features the phrase that fully explains the motto of our association of volunteers who help others: “Ut unum sint”, meaning “so that they may all be one”.
This branch warmly welcomes new donors: in fact, every year, a mobile blood donation station comes to town to give everyone, especially young people, the chance to learn more about giving blood. Giving blood is the maximum expression of altruism because you give someone else, who you don’t know, a part of you that can transfer life.
Over recent years, this branch has been very active and has organised many events, from the more “normal” ones such as the Blood Donation Festival and the aforementioned mobile donation station, to more unique initiatives such as “la Befana vien dal Mare” (“the Befana witch comes from the sea”).
